How to Get from I-Drive to Universal Orlando

Packed with hotel and restaurant choices and conveniently located near the convention center, the International Drive (I-Drive) area in Orlando is a popular choice of places to stay while in town on vacation. But…how to do you get from there to the Universal theme parks? Thankfully there are lots of choices!

Drive

If you have your own vehicle, the Universal parks are just a short, easy drive away from International Drive. Parking will cost a minimum of $27 per day with higher fees for larger vehicles (RVs, etc.), prime parking locations, and valet services. You can find general directions to the Universal parking garages here and details on the cost of parking on this webpage.

Hotel Shuttle

Some hotels offer free shuttles to the Universal theme parks. Unfortunately, these are often on a set schedule which means you are limited to the times they offer. Some also need you to pre-register in advance to save your seat. If this is something you’re interested in utilizing during your vacation, inquire with your specific hotel prior to booking so that you know all the details and can decide if it fits in your plans.

Ride Share

Uber and Lyft both operate in the Orlando area and there’s usually not too long of a wait to catch a ride. Both Uber and Lyft drop off and pick up at a specific location in the Jurassic parking garage. (The signs all say “Uber” but Lyft utilizes the same area as well.)

If you’re waiting for a pickup after leaving the parks, your driver will be sorted into one of three colored holding areas once they arrive. They should text you which one they’re in so that you’ll know where exactly to meet them. (Not all drivers do this automatically, you may need to take the initiative to contact the driver and find out which holding area they’ve been assigned.) Be aware the prices can spike during high demand times.

City Bus

If your budget is particularly tight, public transportation can offer an inexpensive and convenient way to get to and from the Universal parks. The #38 Lynx bus (“Universal Express“) runs along I-Drive to the Universal theme parks from approximately 6a to midnight daily. The best part is that a ride only costs $2 per person (exact change required)!
