Summer’s almost here…which means it’s time for family (and friend) vacations! No matter how well you plan, there is always a bit of (boring) downtime on vacation. Long car rides…waiting for your plane at the airport…standing in line at the amusement park…stuck in the hotel on a rainy day…. So how do you keep everyone happy and engaged? Group games! Check out these great apps that provide interactive entertainment for the whole family.
Looking for quick paced games to keep everyone on their toes? Guessing games like Head’s Up, eTabu, and 5 Second Guess will keep family members entertained no matter what their attention span. Or are you brave enough to learn a little bit more about your travelling companions? Try Truth or Dare for Families.
Need to burn off a little extra energy? Bounden will get everyone moving!
Have creative types in your group? Budding artists will love Party Doodles and Who can’t draw?. Storytellers can let their imagination go wild with a little help from Story Dice (they even have a Star Wars dice set!). And Snapchat fans will love all the selfie taking in Mimics.
Have a family member that’s a bit of a trickster? Embrace your sneaky side and try to outsmart the rest of the group with games like Triple Agent, Psych!, and Out of the Loop.
Suffering from a bit too much togetherness and struggling to encourage your family to get along? Try a group based game like Spaceteam that relies on everyone working together to survive.
Stuck somewhere for a longer period of time? Try a more involved game such as Mysterium, Pandemic, the aMAZEing Labyrinth, Woowasit, or Scotland Yard.
Classic games more your style? This Family Game Travel Pack offers a wide variety to choose from including tic-tac-toe, chess, and dominos.
Want to slip a little learning into the summer vacation? BattleText will encourage vocabulary practice that the kids (and adults) won’t even notice!
What are your favorite ways to keep everyone entertained during travel downtime?
I’ve provided links to most of the apps on Google Play. However, most are available for both Android and Apple devices, please check your respective store for details. These suggestions include both free and paid apps. Some can be played on the same device, others require multiple devices with internet/wi-fi/bluetooth connection. I have no association with any of these apps (other than enjoying them!).
