I blame Doctor Dolittle….

I’ve recently come to the realization that my entire life can probably be explained by my childhood obsession with Doctor Dolittle.  No, not the Eddie Murphy version with the hilarious guinea pig, but the 1967 Rex Harrison-in-a-top-hat-searching-for-the-Great-Pink-Sea-Snail version.  A multitude of animals…a desire for exotic travel…and a dash of a musical….  My mother might have preferred that I fancied a different movie.

A Little About Me

Veterinarian—By day I’m a small animal veterinarian who is going back to school for a masters in international animal welfare, ethics, and law.

Writer—Fiction writer (contemporary and historical fantasy) trying her hand at blog writing.

Wanderer—I seem to be afflicted by a bit of a wanderlust and never ending need to travel…be it halfway around the world or just down the road.

Equestrian—My mother introduced me to horses at a young age and I never grew out of the ‘horse crazy’ stage.  I currently ride and train Arabian sport horses.

Dog lover—Cats are alright, but dogs hold a special place in my heart.  Currently owned by two sighthounds.

Broadway enthusiast—Just don’t ask me to sing!

Plant-based foodie—Pescatarian at home…a bit more flexible when I travel.

Ravenclaw—Did I mention I’m a bit of a geek?

Why Blog?

That’s an excellent question and I really wish I had an excellent answer.  Maybe I’m blogging for myself…to try to make a little sense of all the diverse parts of me.  Maybe I’m blogging for my friends and family…so that they’ll worry a little less when I head out somewhere exciting.  Maybe I’m blogging for people I don’t know…to pass along any little bit of knowledge that might make someone else’s life a bit easier.  I’m not really sure yet.

What to Expect from Finding Fantastic Beasts

A little of everything that is me!  There were certainly be plenty of animals (my own and those I come across on in my travels)…trip reports…travel tips…cool science-y things (probably related to veterinary medicine)…recipes…food discussions…a few musical numbers…and a bit of fantasy.
