New York City is a Broadway lover’s dream! Check out all these incredible Broadway themed activities while you’re in the city.
Catch a Broadway Show
Obviously the first thing that a Broadway lover is going to want to do in New York City is catch a show! Or two…or three! Thankfully there are lots to choose from. Check out Show Score to read reviews of what’s playing and make sure to read this blog post on how to score discount tickets. Don’t forget to look at the off-Broadway shows on offer as well…you might just discover something special *before* it heads to Broadway!
Visit the Theatre’s Stagedoor
After many Broadway shows, actors will visit the theatre’s stagedoor to meet fans, sign autographs, and take photos. You can often find out whether a particular production will have a stagedoor meet-and-greet on Reddit Broadway. If your show isn’t offering this, they may have a ‘virtual stage door’ where you can download a copy of autographs (check your Playbill).
Dinner…and a Show!
Don’t miss a chance to visit either Gayle’s Broadway Rose or Ellen’s Stardust Diner…where you’ll be served by talented waitstaff singing Broadway tunes! Both are conveniently located in the Theater District and Gayle’s Broadway Rose takes advance reservations through their website (Ellen’s Stardust Diner does not accept reservations).
Museum of Broadway
The newly opened immersive and interactive Museum of Broadway traces the history of Broadway from it’s very beginnings down in the financial district to modern day. You’ll also have the opportunity to learn about all the incredible people and behind-the-scenes work that it takes to put on a Broadway show.
Behind the Scenes Tours
Learn more about the history of Broadway with a guided tour. Some even allow you to go behind the scenes of Broadway’s iconic theatres! Broadway Up Close offers several popular walking tours to choose from…the Gershwin offers occasional Behind the Emerald Curtain tours for Wicked…and the New Amsterdam Theatre (operated by Disney) offers a family friendly Behind the Magic Tour as well.
