Port Canaveral is one of the busiest cruise ports in the United States…but the closest major airport is in Orlando, approximately 45 miles away. So how do you travel between MCO and Port Canaveral?!?! Thankfully there are several options!
Shuttle
Many cruise lines offer shuttle service between Orlando and Port Canaveral on embarkation and disembarkation days. Most run between the airport and the cruise port, but some will also make stops at certain hotels. You will need to contact your cruise line to determine if they offer shuttle service, where those shuttles depart from, and the cost of the transportation. While cruise line shuttles are often not the cheapest option, they do come with some benefits including the cruise ship waiting on you if something happens (e.g. bus breaks down) during the trip, limited luggage handling, and sometimes even means an earlier boarding time.
There are also independent shuttle services that run between Orlando and Port Canaveral such as GoPort (and many, many more!).
Both cruise line and independent shuttles priced per person.
Car Service
Hiring a car service, such as from Mears Transportation, is another popular choice. Since this is a private transportation option, you don’t have to worry about waiting on other people outside your group or having to stop at multiple locations along the way. Also, it is priced per vehicle, which can me it more economical for a group.
Ride Share
Both Uber and Lyft are available for transportation between Orlando and Port Canaveral. However, given the distance and surge pricing during times that ships are in port, the cost may vary significantly depending on the day and/or time. You can try to get an idea ahead of time by looking at pricing in the app for the same day/time that you would need to travel a few weeks before your trip. Pricing is per vehicle, but large groups or those with lots of luggage will need to reserve a larger vehicle (which increases the price).
Renting a Car
One way car rentals are readily available from most major car rental companies between Port Canaveral and MCO. This can be particularly convenient if you plan to spend a little time in the area before or after your cruise.
