One of the most beautiful areas of Kauai is the Na Pali Coastline…but it isn’t necessarily that easy to access!
By car
Planning on visiting Waimea Canyon during your time in Kauai? You can actually get a peek at the Na Pali Coastline from the Kalalau Lookout and Puʻu o Kila viewpoints.
By boat
Several companies offer boat tours of the Na Pali coastline. You can opt for a relaxing sunset dinner cruise…a snorkeling cruise…or even an adventurous small boat excursion that can maneuver in amongst the sea caves! Most boat tours of the Na Pali coast leave from Port Allen on the southwest side of the island, though a few leave from Hanalei on the northern side of the island. The water can be particularly rough in the winter which sometimes results in not being able to cruise past the Na Pali coastline.
By air
A variety of companies provide helicopter and small aircraft tours of the Na Pali coast, allowing visitors an up close view of the beautiful, remote area. Most arial tours depart from the Lihue airport (which, for cruise ship passengers, is conveniently located near the Nawiliwili cruise ship dock).
By foot
The 22 mile roundtrip Kalalau Trail is the only land access to the Na Pali coastline. This trail is extremely rugged and is recommended only for advanced hikers. Hiking the trail requires reservations and/or permits depending on what areas of the trail you’ll plan on hiking.
