Special thanks to my friend Tanith for the lovely ‘between the ears’ photos of her and her pony, Willow, riding through the beautiful Scottish countryside that I’ve used for this blog.

With all the rain and snow we’ve had here at home, my paddocks have spent the winter looking a whole lot like the Swamp of Sadness.  Which has meant exactly zero hours of saddle time!  So I’ve been living vicariously through Instagram posts from all over the world.  Check out these ‘between the ears’ feeds that let you travel the world on horseback!

Ever notice how from a young age we plan out our lives in terms of time? In 4 years I plan to graduate college, in 10 years I plan to be married and starting a family, in 40 years I plan to retire. Having goals is fantastic, but when we follow a timeline we sometimes don't see those overgrown paths that twist and wind their way. We become afraid to take the scenic route for fear that it will somehow set us back and put ourselves behind schedule. . If there is one thing I've learned on my rides, it's that the scenic route is always worth the extra time and effort. They also make for better stories. Stephen Covey states it perfectly when he said " live your life by a compass, not a clock."
